One-Liner Wednesday: Be Careful What You Wish For

“Now is not the time to be making new enemies”

 – David Hume

David Hume was one of the leading figures of the Scottish enlightenment, probably best known for his empiricist philosophy. His system of thought precluded any possibility of there actually being a Deity such as portrayed in established religions. Even on his deathbed, when his friends were urging him to renounce the Devil, he never wavered, instead coming up with this terrific one-liner.

Other quotable quotes:

 – Beauty in things exists in the mind which contemplates them.
 – Reason is, and ought only to be the slave of the passions, and can never pretend to any other office than to serve and obey them.
 – A wise man proportions his belief to the evidence.
