Jim’s set us quite a tricky task for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday: ‘a song that reminds you of yourself’.
That could go one of many ways:
- Something that extols your many virtues? Egotistical and just asking for trouble. Also, I don’t have any virtues.
- Something that tells everyone how awful you are? False modesty. Also, I don’t think I’m that bad.
- ‘My Way’? No way.
If pressed, I would probably have taken Leonard Cohens ‘Bird On The Wire’ (“I have tried in my way to be free”) but I’ve already deployed it for SLS. However, I think I’m on reasonably safe ground with this. After all, the title is indisputably true, although some of the sentiments expressed in the lyrics are rather off-target, certainly for current times. Anyway: a dose of instant 1970s nostalgia.
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
It’s hard
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
You know it’s hard
Everybody wants her
Everybody loves her
Everybody wants to take your baby home
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
You watch your friends
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
It never ends
You know that it’s crazy
You want to trust her
Then somebody hangs up when you answer the phone
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
You go it alone
Maybe it’s just an ego problem
Problem is, I’ve been fooled before
By fair weathered friends and faint hearted lovers
And every time it happens
It just convinces me more
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
You watch her eyes
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
You look for lies
Everybody tempts her
Everybody tells her
She’s the most beautiful woman they know
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
You go it alone
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
You watch your friends
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
Yeah it never ends
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
You watch her eyes
When you’re in love with a beautiful woman
You keep looking for lies

Watch your friends, because they will try to steal her away from you. This is really a great song, nice choice.
