The first Sunday of the month, so it’s time to find something by an artiste with a June birthday. As ever, there’s no shortage of possibilities, but I didn’t have to look very far this time.
It just had to be Macca: Paul McCartney, born on 14 June 1942 – in Liverpool, of course.
But how to choose from such an enormous body of work? Well, there’s some duds, obviously – ‘The Frog Chorus’ springs to mind – but since his latest, twentieth, solo album was only released at the end of May, even excluding his work in The Beatles there’s almost no end of possibilities.
Decisions, decisions – but I eventually went for this classic, after a close run against ‘Live And Let Die’. After all, where else are you going to get three songs in one?
Stuck inside these four walls
Sent inside forever
Never seeing no one nice again
Like you, mama
You, mama
You
If I ever get out of here
Thought of giving it all away
To a registered charity
All I need is a pint a day
If I ever get out of here
(If we ever get out of here)
Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash
As we fell into the sun
And the first one said to the second one there
“I hope you’re having fun.”
Band on the run, band on the run
And the jailer man
And sailor Sam
Were searching everyone
For the band on the run, band on the run
For the band on the run, band on the run
Well, the undertaker drew a heavy sigh
Seeing no one else had come
And a bell was ringing in the village square
For the rabbits on the run
Band on the run, band on the run
And the jailer man
And sailor Sam
Were searching everyone
For the band on the run, band on the run
Yeah, the band on the run
The band on the run
Band on the run
Band on the run
Well, the night was falling
As the desert world began to settle down
In the town they’re searching for us everywhere
But we never will be found
Band on the run, band on the run
And the county judge, who held a grudge
Will search for ever more
For the band on the run
Written by Paul and Linda McCartney
The video is of his appearance at Glastonbury in 2004, but how many of the people pictured on the original 1973 Wings album cover can you name? (no Googling!)

Great choice for the theme. I played this album to bits!
