This week, Jim is asking us to feature a song with an arresting opening line: one so familiar that you can ‘name that tune’ immediately. Perhaps it’s just my age, but most of the possibilities that sprang most immediately to mind were rock and roll classics. I see that Jim himself has chosen ‘Tutti-frutti’, but this was top of my list (coincidentally, ‘Tutti-frutti’ was the B-side of the original release of ‘Blue Suede Shoes’).
Well, it’s one for the money,
Two for the show,
Three to get ready,
Now go, cat, go.
But don’t you step on my blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my Blue suede shoes.
Well, you can knock me down,
Step in my face,
Slander my name
All over the place.
Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh,
Honey, lay off of my shoes
Don’t you step on my Blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.
You can burn my house,
Steal my car,
Drink my liquor
From an old fruitjar.
Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh,
Honey, lay off of my shoes
Don’t you step on my blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

Interesting choice, from Elvis’s better days. I wasn’t really a fan but some off his early stuff is great – like this one 👍
Great choice for this prompt. You don’t have to be an Elvis fan to know this one immediately.
Excellent choice! Did you know yesterday was the anniversary of Elvis’ death? I was stunned to be reminded he was only 42 years old. He was 20 when he recorded this song. Incredible.
It is really nice to see a young Elvis, and this is a great song, but I do prefer the Carl Perkins version of this song.
Such an iconic song
Who doesn’t love Elvis and this is a classic🙌
ONe of the most classic lines ever!
Elvis and his predecessor, Carl Perkins, do this up right. Great old rocker.
I prefer Carl Perkins’s version, but it’s a great song….
