Song Lyric Sunday: Offspring – ‘Turn Me On’

I must admit that the prompt for Song Lyric Sunday this week had me stumped for a long time: something by children of famous musicians.

The only ones I could come up with were Julian Lennon and Liza Minnelli, neither of which I found particularly inspiring. Then it came back to me that the singer Norah Jones is the daughter of no less a musician than the great Ravi Shankar.

I also have to say that Norah Jones isn’t really my thing (I’d far rather listen to Ravi Shankar), but a theme is a theme and this is a pleasant enough warble of a song written by John D Loudermilk

Like a flower waiting to bloom
Like a lightbulb in a dark room
I’m just sitting here waiting for you
To come on home and turn me on

Like the desert waiting for the rain
Like a school kid waiting for the spring
Im just sitting here waiting for you
To come on home and turn me on

My poor heart it’s been so dark
Since you’ve been gone
After all you’re the one who turns me off
You’re the only one who can turn me back on

My hi-fi is waiting for a new tune
My glass is waiting for some fresh ice cubes
I’m just sitting here waiting for you
To come on home and turn me on
Turn me on
