A lot of people seem to have found Helen’s theme of ‘Fear’ for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday pretty straightforward. I confess that I had to think about it for a while, having eschewed the perhaps too obvious ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’.
However, this Pink Floyd song eventually came to me, and famously has the added bonus of backing vocals by ‘the faces in the crowd’ at Liverpool FC
You say the hill’s too steep to climb
Chiding
You say you’d like to see me try
Climbing
You pick the place and I’ll choose the time
And I’ll climb the hill in my own way
Just wait a while for the right day
And as I rise above
The tree-line and the clouds
I look down
Hear the sound
Of the things you said today
Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd
Smiling
Merciless the magistrate turns ’round
Frowning
And who’s the fool who wears the crown
Go down in your own way
And everyday is the right day
And as you rise above
The fear-lines in his brow
You look down
Hear the sound
Of the faces in the crowd
Written by David Gilmour & Roger Waters
There’s just something about Pink Floyd. I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve NEVER heard this before – I’m shocked! Just had my 40th high school reunion and there was a LOT of PF…but not this! LOL! Thanks for the share. 🙂
I suppose everybody just put ‘Echoes’ on and forgot about Side 1 – which is a shame, because there’s plenty of good stuff there.
