‘So tell me now and I won’t ask again’
Further exploring February’s theme of love, Helen at This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time wants us to look more specifically at the doubts and insecurity that I guess are an integral part of any love affair. Even when everything is going well – precisely because it is going well – you worry that it might all end. All I can say is ‘so far, so good’.
And I doubt if those feelings have ever been better expressed than in this song. I see from my research that it was also covered by Amy Winehouse, among others, but this is Carole King’s original:
Tonight you’re mine completely
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow
Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment’s pleasure
Can I believe the magic of your sighs
Will you still love me tomorrow
Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I’m the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun
I’d like to know that your love
Is love I can be sure of
So tell me now and I won’t ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow
Song Lyric Sunday
Great pick for this week! Carole King is classic. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve asked this question in a relationship.
Carole King one of the best singer songwriters ever! I saw the stage show Beautiful a couple of months back …. Excellent!
I suppose the answer is, Not if you keep asking me that bloody question! Joking aside, Carole King was my mum’s favourite …
…and ‘Tapestry’ was often on the record player in my parents’ front room…
