This week’s Song Lyric Sunday challenge is to present a song from a ‘concept’ album. I confess to not being the biggest fan of that particular genre, because it makes me thing of Genesis or Yes, neither of which have ever sparked any interest in me.
Of course there are honourable exceptions, perhaps most notably (and certainly most commercially successful) ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’. But let us not forget The Who’s rock opera ‘Tommy’.
(The accompanying video is from their performance at the Isle Of Wight Festival in 1970. You know, the one I managed to sleep through…..)
f your child ain’t all he should be now
This girl could put him right
I’ll show him what he could be now
Just give me one night
I’m the gypsy, the acid queen
Pay before we start
The gypsy, I’m guaranteed
To tear your soul apart
Give us a room, close the door
Leave us for a while
Your boy won’t be a boy no more
Young, but not a child
I’m the gypsy, the acid queen
Pay before we start
The gypsy, I’m guaranteed
To tear your soul apart
Gather your wits and hold on fast
Your mind must learn to roam
Just as the gypsy queen must do
You’re gonna hit the road
My work is done
Now look at him
He’s never been more alive
His head, it shakes
His fingers clutch
Watch his body writhe
I’m the gypsy, the acid queen
Pay before we start
I’m the gypsy, I’m guaranteed
To break your little heart

A good choice for the theme. You must have been well out of it to sleep through this!
Perfect choice for a concept album. I knew someone would go this way, and the song you chose was perfect, not one that had been overdone by the mainstream.
This is definitely a standout track on the Who’s iconic rock opera album, Tommy. Thanks for sharing your music, again.
A truly great concept album
Probably my favorite concept album…I love this song.
A few of us paid homage to The Who’s rock opera, Tommy. Good choice!
