Jim has decreed that our Song Lyric Sunday contributions this week should contain the words ‘get’ and/or ‘over’. An obvious double-whammy – and slightly mischievous to boot – would be ‘I’ll Never Get Over You’, originally performed by British band Johnny Kidd & The Pirates, which reached #4 in the UK singles chart in 1963.
That song was written by Gordon Mills, but Johnny Kidd himself – here credited under his real, rather more prosaic, name of Fred Heath – wrote and also originally released this absolute rock and roll classic.
Rather than the original, however, I’ve chosen a live performance by The Who from 1977 – because why wouldn’t you want to watch that? To be played as loud as you dare.
When you move in right up close to me
That’s when I get the chills all over me
Quivers down my backbone
I got the shakes in my thigh bone
I got the shivers in my knee bone
Shakin’ all over
Just the way you say goodnight to me
Brings the feelin’ on inside of me
Quivers down my backbone
I got the shakes in my thigh bone
I got the shivers in my knee bone
Shakin’ all over
Quivers down my backbone
I got the shakes in my thigh bone
I got the shivers in my knee bone
Shakin’ all over
Well, you make me shake and I like it, baby
You make me shake and I like it, baby
Well, shake, shake, shake
Shake, shake
Shake, shake, shake
Shake, shake, shake

The Who at their imperious best! Great version of a classic song π
The Who! Great choice, this song. Haven’t heard it in years!
Excellent choice! And I love the version you chose too. That guitar is amazing! If that ain’t quivering nothing is!
Keith Moon looks so happy sitting behind his drum kits. The Who did a great cover with this and I love the video you found. Great choice, Deadhead.
My thought exactly about Keith.
Now this woke me up! Fabulous song/video choice. Pete Townshend is phenomenal!
I’ve always liked this song, especially that memorable guitar playing
