Song Lyric Sunday: Reggae – ‘Satta Massagana’

It’s reggae week on Song Lyric Sunday, and that’s certainly fine by me. I listened to quite a lot of reggae in my teenage years, not least because my brother was (is) a major fan. It’s hard not to be seduced by the hypnotic rhythms.

The go-to reggae artiste is the great Bob Marley, of course, but I wanted to find something less obvious and came across this very spiritual song by The Abyssinians. Apparently it has also been adapted to be used as a Christian hymn, which doesn’t really surprise me.

There is a land, far, far away
Where there’s no night, there’s only day
Look into the book of life and you will see
That there is a land, far, far away
That there is a land, far, far away

The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords
Sits upon his throne and He rules us all
Look into the book of life and you will see
That He.. rules us all
That He.. He rules us all

The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords
Sits upon his throne and He rules us all
Look into the book of life and you will see
That He.. rules us all
That He.. rules us all

There is a land far, far away
Where there’s no night, there’s only day
Look into the book of life and you will see
That there’s a land, far, far away
That there’s a land, far, far away

Satta Amassagana Ahamlack, ulaghize
Satta Amassagana Ahamlack, ulaghize

Ulaghize..
Ulaghize..
Ulaghize..
Ulaghize..
