This week’s theme for Song Lyric Sunday is songs with recognisable intros.
There is a TV show that runs at teatime on Saturdays (when it’s on) on the BBC and it’s called ‘The Hit List’. Its basis premise is that four teams of two – whether members of the public or ‘celebrities’ that I’ve never actually heard of – compete to name songs and their performers as quickly as possible.
The songs can be from anywhere between the 1970s and the present day. I find that I’m pretty much lost with anything after about 1990, and as for the two thousands then I haven’t got a hope.
However, I got this one from the very first note, quicker than any of the competitors. It was released in September 1970, so I would, wouldn’t I?
Finished with my woman ’cause she couldn’t help me with my mind
People think I’m insane because I am frowning all the time
All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy
Think I’ll lose my mind if I don’t find something to pacify
Can you help me occupy my brain?
Oh yeah
I need someone to show me the things in life that I can’t find
I can’t see the things that make true happiness, I must be blind
Make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry
Happiness I cannot feel and love to me is so unreal
And so as you hear these words telling you now of my state
I tell you to enjoy life I wish I could but it’s too late
Written by ‘Geezer’ Butler, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and Bill ward
Fantastic! A real blast from my teenage past. I had the album and loved it. My Mum hated it!
Absolutely top notch Ozzie and the lads at their best! I could listen to this all day ππ
Yes! Ozzy! Great memorable songs every one! π
This really is a great intro, and it was nice to hear this song again.
This song was suggested to me by my husband. I took a different direction but showed him this post & he says “see”, I told you. Ha-ha.
