Song Lyric Sunday: P or G – ‘Green Is The Colour’

To begin the New Year, Jim is embarking on a three-week season of Song Lyric Sunday prompts consisting of a choice of two letters of the alphabet, the title of the selected song having to begin with one of them.

First up is P or G, and my first thought was this Pink Floyd beauty, from the soundtrack of the film ‘More’.

Picture this: a 21-year old university student, having just completed his final exams in June 1973, relaxing by walking down to the river bank and lying on the grass, eyes closed and enjoying the warm sun on his face, chilling out with this on his cassette player. Yes: me.

Heavy hung the canopy of blue
Shade my eyes and I can see you
White is the light that shines
Through the dress that you wore

She lay in the shadow of the wave
Hazy were the visions overplayed
Sunlight on her eyes but moonshine
Made her blind everytime

Green is the colour of her kind
Quickness of the eye
Deceives the mind
Envy is the bond between
The hopeful and the damned
