Jim has set us the task for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday of posting a song that features one of the animals that make up the signs of the Chinese Zodiac
Not that I pay much – indeed, any – attention to astrology, but I suppose it is quite cool to have been born in the Year of the Dragon. However, my submission this week features a rather more timid creature, which also happened to be the first song that came to mind when I saw the prompt.
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don’t do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she’s ten feet tall
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you’re going to fall
Tell ’em a hookah-smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Call Alice
When she was just small
When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you’ve just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice
I think she’ll know
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen’s off with her head
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head
Feed your head
Written by Grace Slick
This video features Grace Slick’s isolated vocal track from the album version of the song – a different and very interesting way to hear a very familiar song.
Song Lyric Sunday 7 July 2019
Being a dragon is very cool and since I am a snake that makes me the worst.
This was a popular choice today!
