The summer of 1972. You had to be there. I’m grateful every day that I was.
No, I can’t forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that’s just the way the story goes
You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes, it shows
No, I can’t forget tomorrow
When I think of all my sorrow
When I had you there, but then I let you go
And now it’s only fair that I should let you know
What you should know
I can’t live if living is without you
I can’t live, I can’t give anymore
I can’t live if living is without you
I can’t give, I can’t give anymore
Well, I can’t forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that’s just the way the story goes
You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes, it shows
I can’t live if living is without you
I can’t live, I can’t give anymore
I can’t live if living is without you
I can’t live, I can’t give anymore
If living is without you

I love this song…but it is oh so sad!
I was 12 when this came out and it’s STILL a favorite…46 years later! OMG! LOL! Thanks for the memories. 🙂
Love the stroll down memory lane. Nice choice!!
I was there, too. Great song!
Great taste in song – I picked it too!
I was there. A couple of years back, I watched a documentary on Netflix about Harry Nilsson. If memory serves me correct, he wrote this song as he was going through a nasty divorce.
As I only arrived on the scene in late 1972, I’d never heard this version – the original I take it? It’s excellent.
Actually not the original. First recorded by a group called Badfinger, I believe, but this is certainly the definitive version.
Badfinger? That’s quite a name! Thanks.
This song gives me chills every time. It’s a beautiful song. Thanks so much for sharing!
Always loved this song. And Harry Nilsson. Thanks!
