Song Lyric Sunday: Search – ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’

I’m no great fan of U2, but my God, those first three tracks on ‘The Joshua Tree’ could make you forgive just about  anything.

Except Bono.

However, this song – the second track of the album – was absolutely the first thing that came to mind when I saw Helen’s theme for this week was ‘Search’. Just play it. Loud.

I have climbed the highest mountain
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you

I have run
I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire

I have spoken with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone

But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

I believe in the kingdom come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
Well yes I’m still running

You broke the bonds and you
Loosed the chains
Carried the cross
Of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believed it

But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

Written by Bono (Paul Hewson)

  1. I’m horrible placing lyrics with songs. Even after I read that U2 recorded it, I couldn’t piece it together until I played your YT selection. I love mewsic and I can’t believe how for years, decades, I went about just listening to tunes without a whole lot of thought to who’s singing. Maybe I didn’t care to know unless it was someone I was emotionally invested in for whatever reasons – new love, broken heart, family spat, friend problems, job woes, college struggles, new mom, … The list goes on, trust me. Anyhow, thanks for turning the light on in the attic for me. I just about didn’t recognize Bono in the clip. Have a songsational Sunday!
