There’s no denying that Helen has given us plenty to choose from in setting the theme of ‘Heart’ for Song Lyric Sunday this week. Rather like the recent topic of ‘Angel’, though, it would probably be necessary to issue a Category Seven schmaltz alert.
No such problem with this choice, however: a defining point in the development of my musical tastes and one I never tire of listening to. Eery, haunting, it just does not get any better than this.
Little by little the night turns around
Counting the leaves which tremble at dawn
Lotuses lean on each other in yearning
Over the hills a swallow is resting
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
Over the mountain watching the watcher
Breaking the darkness, waking the grapevine
Knowledge of love is knowledge of shadow
Love is the shadow that ripens the wine
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
The heart of the sun, the heart of the sun
Witness the man who waves at the wall
Making the shape of his question to Heaven
Whether the sun will fall in the evening
Will he remember the lesson of giving?
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
The heart of the sun, the heart of the sun

Classic early Floyd!
Nice pick, very spacey in a tribal Medieval sort of way. This is the only Pink Floyd song that features all five band members as it includes both Gilmour and Barrett.
Indeed, hence the specific choice of featured image.
