Songs about telephone calls for Helen’s theme this week are almost as ubiquitous as the devices themselves. It’s not hard to reel off a few titles almost without thinking (maybe they’re on a kind of mental speed-dial). However, this one was easy for me – the mighty Undertones, from 1979. Two and a half minutes of teenage angst, only ever bettered by ‘Teenage Kicks’.
You’ve got my number
Why don’t you use it
You know my name
You won’t abuse it
If you wanna wanna wanna wanna
Wanna have someone to talk to
I’ll pick you up
In my car
Take you home
It’s not far
If you wanna wanna wanna wanna
Wanna have someone to talk to
Do it – do it – do it – do it
Why don’t you ring my number?
Why don’t you ring my number now?
Let’s say goodbye
I couldn’t stand it
You’ve got my number
Why don’t you use it

Great pick for this week. Thanks so much for sharing!
Never heard this, the Celtic touch, great fun! Phone songs are potent. I thought of this one.
Yes indeed, or “tell the folks back home this is the promised land calling”
Was that a Chuck Berry line? Watching this again, I remembered what a towering genius he was.
It surely was:
The Promised Land
Haha, clue’s in the title! Ta for the link, liked the Grateful Dead endearingly wobbly version …
