“Gonna make you pay for that great big hole in my heart”
‘Vengeance’ is Helen’s chosen theme this week. Almost too easy: there is no question in my mind that the greatest song about revenge ever written is Bob Dylan’s ‘Positively Fourth Street’. However, Dylan does turn up quite often in these Song Lyric Sunday exercises. Not only that, but I see that the estimable nkdwhtguy has got in ahead of me. So instead here’s a first-time contribution from the almighty Led Zeppelin.
Lyin’, cheatin’, hurtin
That’s all you seem to do
Messin’ around with every guy in town
Puttin’ me down for thinkin’ of someone new
Always the same, playin’ your game
Drive me insane, trouble is gonna come to you
One of these days and it won’t be long
You’ll look for me but baby, I’ll be gone
This is all I gotta say to you woman
Your time is gonna come
Your time is gonna come
Your time is gonna come
Your time is gonna come
Made up my mind to break you this time
Won’t be so fine, it’s my turn to cry
Do what you want, I won’t take the brunt
It’s fadin’ away, can’t feel you anymore
Don’t care what you say ’cause I’m goin’ away to stay
Gonna make you pay for that great big hole in my heart
People talkin’ all around, watch out woman
No longer is the joke gonna be on my heart
You been bad to me woman
But it’s coming back home to you
Your time is gonna come

Great choice. Gotta love these lyrics, especially: “You been bad to me woman
But it’s coming back home to you”
I haven’t listened to Led Zeppelin in a while and I forgot how great they are. Loved the lyrics in this song as well. Thanks so much for sharing!
Not a bad one at all, and that’s saying something for me and this particular band. Thanks.
I don’t dispute your #1 but two other contenders are ‘All Over Now, Baby Blue’ and ‘Don’t Think Twice’ with its brilliant put-down ending ‘Just kinda wasted my precious time / But don’t think twice, it’s all right’ …
…or even ‘Masters of War’ if you leave romance out of the equation.
