Well, my heart went “boom”
When I crossed that room
Song Lyric Sundays in February are going to be all about love, it seems. Well, there are probably more songs about love than any other subject, so it shouldn’t be a problem finding something relevant.
I do like Helen’s idea of following the different stages of love week by week, though, starting with, as she puts it: “a song about your first crush, or just a crush, or seeing someone for the first time and falling into that gooey abyss of butterflies and blushing”.
Not sure about the butterflies and blushing, but I did a – non-musical – post about this very subject quite recently.
For a song lyric challenge, though, how about some early (1963) Beatles?
Well, she was just seventeen
You know what I mean
And the way she looked was way beyond compare
So how could I dance with another (Ooh)
When I saw her standing there
Well she looked at me, and I, I could see
That before too long I’d fall in love with her
She wouldn’t dance with another (Whooh)
When I saw her standing there
Well, my heart went “boom”
When I crossed that room
And I held her hand in mine…
Whoah, we danced through the night
And we held each other tight
And before too long I fell in love with her
Now I’ll never dance with another (Whooh)
Since I saw her standing there

Nice choice. It’s funny – for me I can never think of this song without thinking first of the Tiffany cover from the 1980s – which was right when I was starting to get into music. Of course, I know it’s the Beatles, but it will also forever play in my head with a girl singing it.
Know what you mean Louise. My dad had me listening to Beatles songs from a young age, but I know it not as their song first and foremost either. Both versions are good though.
What, you don’t blush or get butterflies? Haha. Falling in love is different for everyone, I’m sure. 🙂 I think this is a great pick for the week. The Beatles are always a classic. Thanks so much for sharing!
Fantastic – reminds me of dancing to songs like this at the Cavern in Liverpool (many years after the Beatles were there I hasten to add, they just still play a lot of 60s music there!) and perhaps once or twice catching someone’s eye across a crowded room…!
The Cavern was before my time too – although not by that much. But I was born and raised in Birkenhead and worked in Liverpool for a while, so I could certainly find my way to it without a problem. Thanks for looking.
Another ex-pat then! I’m actually not sure I could find my way back there now… it was always a bit of a blur tbh…
Perfect song for Helen’s theme this week!
Memory Lane is great when you’re a baby boomer. There’s that great photo of them composing this song in Paul’s front room, taken by brother Mike – later of the Scaffold.

Thanks for that, Dave.
