Hallowe’en is the broad theme of Jim’s prompts for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday, what with it being that time of year.

It’s fair to say that Hallowe’en is more of an American ‘thing’ than a European one and even in less pandemic times it would be very surprising to find the neighbours going door-to-door demanding chocolate with menaces.

Nonetheless, a prompt is a prompt. One of the trigger words this week is ‘witch’, which made me think immediately of Donovan’s ‘Season of the Witch’, but it’s a bit obvious and really not that great a song. However, staying with Donovan I resorted to ‘any trick in the book’ and instead chose this 1966 hit.
