This week, Jim has challenged us to showcase a song containing either ‘Yesterday’, ‘Today’ or ‘Tomorrow’ in its title or lyrics.

I will by no means be the only one whose first thought was Paul McCartney’s ‘Yesterday’: it’s a bit obvious, though. The Beatles’ ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ is there too, although I’ve already deployed it for an SLS prompt. I suppose the Beatles set could be completed with ‘Things We Said Today’, which might even be considered as a deep cut now.

Instead, though, I’ve turned to one of my dear daughter’s favourite bands: The Cure. And this is very early Cure, so if you’ve ever wondered what Robert Smith looks (or looked) like minus the Goth makeup, just watch the video.

I don’t pretend to be a particular aficionado of The Cure (after my time), but I think this is a very fine song (from their second studio album, ‘Seventeen Seconds’, released in 1980).
