This week, Jim is looking for the the title track of an album. My very first thought was Neil Young’s ‘After The Goldrush’, but checking back, it seemed I’d already used it in an earlier post.
A shame, but no problem – I went for the gentle, lilting ‘Harvest’ instead. Both those albums were on what’s known as ‘heavy rotation’ during my student days.
Did I see you down
In a young girl’s town
With your mother in so much pain?
I was almost there
At the top of the stairs
With her screaming in the rain
Did she wake you up to tell you that
It was only a change of plan?
Dream up, dream up
Let me fill your cup
With the promise of a man
Did I see you walking with the boys?
Though it was not hand-in-hand
And was some black face in a lonely place
When you could understand?
Did she wake you up to tell you that
It was only a change of plan?
Dream up, dream up
Let me fill your cup
With the promise of a man
Will I see you give more than I can take?
Will I only harvest some?
As the days fly past
Will we lose our grasp
Or fuse it in the sun?
Did she wake you up to tell you that
It was only a change of plan?
Dream up, dream up
Let me fill your cup
With the promise of a man
Dream up, dream up
Let me fill your cup
With the promise of a man

A good choice! I had this on heavy rotation too – I got into practice for a year before I went to uni 😊
Nice choice, Deadhead and it was really nice to listen to this today. Harvest captures a sense of longing and reflection with its themes of personal struggle, loneliness, and the complexities of love and relationships.
Often overshadowed by Heart of Gold, it’s really nice to hear Harvest once again. Great album.
Man, I haven’t heard this song in forever. You can’t go wrong with Papa Neil.
One of my favourite Neil Young albums
