This week, Jim is seeking a track from an album that features in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. This was first published in 2003, revamped a little in 2012 and given a complete makeover in 2020 and again in 2023. To be frank, I focused my quest on the original listing, largely on the basis that if it’s from the 21st century it’s more likely than not that I won’t like it very much.
Coming in at #427 in the original version of the original list, although falling to #494 in the revamped 2023 version, is ‘Presenting The Fabulous Ronettes’. This one surely needs no introduction…
The night we met I knew I needed you so
And if I had the chance I’d never let you go
So won’t you say you love me
I’ll make you so proud of me
We’ll make ’em turn their heads every place we go
So won’t you, please
(Be my, be my baby) Be my little baby
(My one and only baby) Say you’ll be my darlin’
(Be my, be my baby) Be my baby now
Wha-oh-oh-oh
I’ll make you happy, baby, just wait and see
For every kiss you give me, I’ll give you three
Oh, since the day I saw you
I have been waiting for you
You know I will adore you ’til eternity
So won’t you, please
(Be my, be my baby) Be my little baby
(My one and only baby) Say you’ll be my darlin’
(Be my, be my baby) Be my baby now
Wha-oh-oh-oh-oh
