Our Song Lyric Sunday Challenge for this week is to come up with a song from the year of our birth.
In my case, that would be 1952. My birth (in May) actually predates the first official UK pop chart, which did not appear until mid-November. The first ever top of the pops was a song called ‘Here In My Heart’, by Al Martino (no? me neither).
So 1952 probably wasn’t the greatest year for pop music, but it was a very good one for cinema, with several iconic movies being released in that year – including ‘Singin’ In The Rain’, ‘The Quiet Man’, ‘Viva Zapata!’ – and also one of my personal favourites: ‘High Noon’, whose soundtrack includes this, which won the Oscar that year for best original song.
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin’
On this, our weddin’ day
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin’
Wait, wait along
Oh, to be torn twixt love and duty
S’posin’, I lose my fair haired beauty
Look at that big hand move along
Nearin’, high noon
He made a vow while in state prison
Vowed it would be my life or his’n
I’m not afraid of death but, oh
What will I do if you leave me?
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin’
You made that promise as a bride
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin’
Although you’re grievin’, don’t think of leavin’
Now that I need you by my side
Written by Tex Ritter

A great song from a wonderful movie.
Yes we both fell into the same weird time zone for music this week. I remember this one very well. Good pick!
This was sung by Tex Ritter Hollywood’s singing cowboy.
a great story told in a song… I have seen the move more than once too 💜
Good one, and I do remember the song, and I probably did see the movie. 🙂
