For this week’s Song Lyric Sunday we’ve been challenged to highlight a song that prominently features a saxophone. I can imagine that the immediate thought for many Brits would have been Gerry Rafferty’s iconic ‘Baker Street’, but I feel constrained to try a bit harder.
Andy MacKay was a founding and integral member of Roxy Music, and here he features prominently on this live version of the title track of the album ‘Avalon’.
Now the party’s over
I’m so tired
Then I see you coming
Out of nowhere
Much communication
In a motion
Without conversation
Or a notion
Avalon
When the samba takes you
Out of nowhere
And the background’s fading
Out of focus
Yes, the picture’s changing
Every moment
And your destination
You don’t know it
Avalon
Dancing, dancing
Dancing, dancing
When you bossa nova
There’s no holding
Would you have me dancing
Out of nowhere

A great choice for the theme. Loved the whole album, and though she didn’t sing on the recorded version, Martha Ladly is a gorgeous addition for this performance.
I am pretty sure we will have Baker Street today, but I am glad that you came up with something different. Great choice, thanks for sharing this.
