Jim’s looking for a sense of direction this week, with his key words being the cardinal points of the compass,
This is another example of me using the first song that came into my head, from the 1963 album ‘The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan’. Yes of course I had a copy.
If you’re traveling the north country fair
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to one who lives there
For she once was a true love of mine
If you go when the snowflakes storm
When the rivers freeze and summer ends
Please see if she has a coat so warm
To keep her from the howlin’ winds
Please see if her hair hangs long
If it rolls and flows all down her breast
Please see for me if her hair’s hanging long
For that’s the way I remember her best
I’m a-wonderin’ if she remembers me at all
Many times I’ve often prayed
In the darkness of my night
In the brightness of my day
So if you’re travelin’ in the north country fair
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine
Written by Bob Dylan
Classic Dylan, great to hear this again. the Simon & Garfunkel song Scarborough Fair also has those lyrics, “She once was a true love of mine.”
And that itself harks back to a traditional English folk song, first noted in about 1670. As Dylan himself noted, “it’s all been said before”.
❤️ one of my favorites. Glad to hear it again.
I thought about using this one. Of course being a diehard Dylan fan, I love the song.
A song that has such heart.
